Used IBC Totes for Sale
Quality pre-owned intermediate bulk containers in 275 and 330 gallon sizes. Every unit is graded, inspected, and documented — so you know exactly what you're getting before it arrives.
Understanding Our Grading System
We use a transparent four-tier grading system so you can match the right condition to your application and budget. No surprises on delivery.
$80 – $130 / unit (typical range)
Grade A totes show minimal signs of use. The HDPE bottle is clear or lightly tinted, free of major scuffs, odor, or residue. The steel cage is structurally sound with only surface rust, and the pallet is intact. These units are typically one- or two-trip containers from food, water, or non-hazardous liquid service.
Grade A inventory represents our highest-quality pre-owned units. Many come directly from food manufacturers, beverage producers, and pharmaceutical companies that use totes for a single trip and retire them. The HDPE bottle retains its original clarity, the valve functions smoothly, and the cage shows only the kind of incidental surface oxidation you'd expect from any steel stored outdoors. If you need maximum quality at below-new prices, Grade A is your target.
Best For
Water storage, irrigation, food-compatible fluids, DIY projects, potable water (with proper prep)
Not Appropriate For
Not required for: regulated hazmat transport without recertification
$60 – $110 / unit (typical range)
Grade B totes have seen regular use but remain fully functional. The bottle may show light staining or be translucent/opaque. Cage may have moderate rust or a repaired crossbar. Pallets may have one replaced board. Suitable for most industrial and agricultural applications where appearance is secondary.
Grade B is our most commonly ordered used tote — and the backbone of many farm, landscaping, and industrial operations. These units have seen 3–10 fill cycles from typical agricultural or industrial service. The bottle holds pressure, the valve operates correctly, and the cage and pallet support full working loads. Cosmetic imperfections like staining, opacity, or surface rust on the cage are normal and do not affect performance for the vast majority of non-food applications.
Best For
Agricultural chemicals, lubricants, non-food liquids, water hauling, irrigation, construction
Not Appropriate For
Not appropriate for: food-grade or pharma applications, potable water systems
$45 – $85 / unit (typical range)
Grade C totes are sold as working units for non-sensitive applications. They may show visible wear, heavier staining, a replaced valve, or a patched pallet. The HDPE bottle holds pressure and is leak-free. These are our most economical option for buyers who prioritize cost over cosmetics.
Grade C totes earn their classification through visible cosmetic wear rather than structural compromise. Every Grade C unit still passes pressure testing — it holds fluid without leaking. The difference is in how it looks: heavy staining inside the bottle, significant cage rust (surface, not structural), a composite pallet, or a previously replaced valve assembly. For applications like wastewater staging, non-critical chemical containment, or temporary storage at a job site, Grade C delivers tremendous value per dollar.
Best For
Wastewater containment, non-critical storage, construction site water, temporary applications, secondary containment
Not Appropriate For
Not appropriate for: food, pharma, potable water, food-grade applications

Grade D units fail pressure testing or have structural compromise that prevents safe liquid storage. These are sold specifically for cage salvage, pallet harvesting, or HDPE recycling. They are clearly marked and never listed alongside functional inventory.
We include Grade D in our grading system for full transparency. These units have failed inspection — a crack in the HDPE bottle, a compromised cage weld, or a pallet that cannot safely support the rated load. We do not sell Grade D units for liquid storage under any circumstances. We do offer them to metal recyclers, pallet resellers, and HDPE processors. If you operate a recycling facility and want a steady supply of retired IBC components, contact us about our materials program.
Best For
HDPE recycling, steel salvage, pallet resale, cage parts, educational display
Not Appropriate For
Not for liquid storage of any kind

Environmental Impact of Buying Used
Every used IBC tote sold is one that doesn't end up in a landfill or shredder. When you buy used, you're extending the functional life of 60+ pounds of HDPE plastic and 80+ pounds of steel — materials that required significant energy and resources to produce in the first place.
The IBC tote supply chain is one of the most naturally circular in industrial logistics. Totes are designed for multiple trips, built to withstand repeated handling, and made from materials with well-established recycling pathways. Buying used participates in that circular economy at its most efficient point: reuse before recycling.
For operations with sustainability reporting requirements, we can provide documentation of the used tote supply chain — origin, condition at intake, and estimated lifecycle extension vs. landfill disposal — to support your ESG or sustainability disclosures.
Case Study: Midwest Grain Cooperative
A regional agricultural co-op replaced 80 aging spray tanks with Grade B used IBC totes, saving $28,000 vs. new totes and extending the service life of 6,400 lbs of HDPE plastic and 8,000 lbs of steel. They incorporated the purchase into their annual sustainability report as a circular economy initiative.
HDPE plastic kept from landfill per tote
Steel retained in service per tote
Less energy than manufacturing a new tote
Water savings vs. producing virgin HDPE
End of life: When a used tote eventually reaches the end of its service life, Kansas IBC Cycling accepts it back through our IBC recycling program. We recover the HDPE and steel for responsible processing. Full-circle service from sale to end-of-life.
Common Questions About Used IBCs
Are used IBC totes safe?+
Yes — when properly graded and used for compatible applications. Every used tote we sell has passed a pressure test, visual inspection, and previous-content review. The grade system tells you exactly what condition the tote is in and what it previously held. Used Grade A totes from food or water service are appropriate for a wide range of applications including garden irrigation and non-potable water storage.
Can I use a used IBC tote for drinking water?+
Grade A totes with water or food-grade previous content can be used for potable water storage with proper preparation: replace the valve and gaskets, triple-rinse with clean water, and optionally treat with a food-safe sanitizer. For long-term potable storage we recommend our food-grade reconditioned totes, which come with documented cleaning and new components as standard.
What do you mean by 'previous content'?+
Every IBC tote we sell has had a prior use — that's what makes it 'used.' We always disclose what was stored in the tote before it came to us. For Grade A and B, the previous contents are documented from label review and receipt records. For Grade C, previous contents are disclosed to the best of our knowledge. You should never use a used tote for a contents that is chemically incompatible with its previous use without thorough professional cleaning.
How do you assign grades — is it subjective?+
Our grading is based on specific, documented criteria: bottle clarity and odor, cage weld and rust condition, pallet board integrity, valve function, and pressure test result. Every tote that passes pressure testing and has documented previous content is eligible for Grade A, B, or C based on its cosmetic and structural condition against our rubric. Multiple technicians review high-value units. The system is designed to be consistent and defensible.
Can I return a used tote if I don't like it?+
Yes, within 7 days if the unit does not match its assigned grade. We photograph every tote before shipment, so we can verify the unit's condition at the time of dispatch. If we graded it incorrectly, we replace it or refund at no charge. Standard returns (buyer's preference) are accepted within 14 days on undamaged, unmixed units with restocking and freight deducted.
Do used totes come with a valve?+
Yes. All used totes are sold with their existing valve unless you request a replacement. Grade A and B valves are tested and functional. Grade C valves may be replacement valves we installed during inspection. New valve upgrades are available for any grade at a small additional cost — recommend for food-adjacent or long-term storage applications.
What are the shipping options?+
For single or small orders (1–5 totes), we can arrange LTL freight pickup or pallet delivery to your location. For larger orders (6+ totes), flatbed or step-deck trailer delivery is typical. Midwest customers within ~300 miles of Kansas City often qualify for our own delivery vehicles. We always quote delivered pricing if you include your zip code.
How should I store used IBC totes when not in use?+
Outdoors: store on a level surface, away from direct UV exposure if the bottle is clear (use a UV sleeve or tarp). Indoors: no special requirements — stack empty totes 2 high only. Do not store with residual contents that could leach into HDPE. Always store with the valve in the closed position and the fill cap tightly sealed. Annual inspection of cage welds and valve seals is recommended for totes kept in long-term storage.
